Electro-Optical Sights
Part of
any modern fire control system is an
electro-optical sight. They are used for surveillance, target
detection, target acquisition, and tracking. Sights typically include one
or more TV or Infrared (IR) sensors. The sights North Star builds have both, plus a laser
rangefinder. These sensors are combined with a
fire-control-computer
which generates imagery with graphical overlay for a gunner (operator) to
accurately aim a weapon, corrected for ballistic trajectory of the ammunition.
The result is that the gunner gets first-burst rounds on the target, day or
night.
North
Star has designed an optical sight for crew-served weapons, and all the
supporting subassemblies, motor drives, amplifiers, servo control electronics,
ballistic computer, video display with graphics overlay, hand controllers, and
control panels.
Applications include:
-
MK 45 Weapon System, a .50 cal, 40 mm
grenade launcher, 7.62 mm weapon system for the U.S. Navy (NSWC Louisville)
-
25mm Demonstrator, a
weapon system for United Defense (UDLP) and the U.S. Navy
-
Gunslinger, an anti-sniper
weapon system
