High
Speed Digital Circuits
North
Star Systems designs fast logic for high-speed data processing. We use the Altera Stratix and Cyclone FPGAs, along with the Quartus II development system.
We have designed circuits for high-speed data processing using schematic
capture, block diagram, and Verilog Hardware Description Language (VHDL), including the
following:
|
|
-
serial-to-parallel and
parallel-to-serial shift registers
-
bit/word sync stuffer
-
FIFOs, and dual-clock FIFOs
-
Video Phase-lock Loop
-
DDR memory interface
-
PCI-bus control
-
AT-bus control
-
DMA controller for Power PC 60X bus
-
Local-bus master and slaves (read write registers)
-
Flash EEPROM interface
-
IRIG-B time code decoder/encoder
-
Real-time clock
-
DDS Variable frequency clock generator 100Hz
to 300 MHz
-
LVDS interfaces to 300M bps
-
RS-422 interfaces to 30M bps
-
Low-voltage PECL
-
SPI-bus, DAC, and ADC controllers

An example of a product we have designed with these features is the
High Speed Telemetry Data Acquisition
System (DAS).
The DAS is a single PCI-bus format card.
With one of two optional daughter cards (RS-422 or LVDS), the DAS
installs in and converts a standard PC to a very high speed serial data
recorder/player. The DAS writes or reads to/from a standard
ATA-bus hard drive over the PCs PCI-bus, at up to 300M bps, continuously
or in bursts. |
